Who are the smartest people on earth?

An intelligence quotient, or IQ, is a score derived from one of several standardized tests designed to assess intelligence.

When current IQ tests are developed, the median raw score of the norming sample is defined as IQ 100 and scores each standard deviation (SD) up or down are defined as 15 IQ points greater or less, although this was not always so historically. By this definition, approximately 95 percent of the population scores an IQ between 70 and 130, which is within two standard deviations of the mean.

IQ scores are used as predictors of educational achievement, special needs, job performance and income. They are also used to study IQ distributions in populations and the correlations between IQ and other variables.

In a survey of British, American, and German parents, it was found that the happiness that came with the birth of a first child typically reached a high point just before the birth and in the immediate time around it before settling back to pre-child levels.

The same thing happened with the second child, although the spike was less pronounced.

Third children had absolutely no positive effects associated with their arrival, and there were even trends that suggested a downward spiral in happiness in the time after the birth.

Scientists from Seoul National University in South Korea have discovered that cigarette butts can be recycled for use in batteries.

When the butts are put through a thermochemical decomposition process called pyrolysis, the cellulose acetate fibers in the cigarette filters can be made into a carbon-based material used in supercapacitors.

Supercapacitors are innovative batteries that last longer, charge faster, and hold more energy than regular batteries.
